Watthub’s largest heavy transport vehicle charging station

TSG Netherlands delivered the largest charging station for heavy vehicles and machinery in the world. The Watthub, as it is called, is a carbon-neutral hub dedicated to powering electric construction trucks and excavators – using mainly renewable energy sources for its operations, with solar panels and windmills nearby.

The project, initiated by Watthub, aimed to create a charging hub that could recharge the heavy equipment used in the reinforcement of the Tiel-Waardenburg dyke. This would allow for zero-emission activities at the site, a novelty also in the construction sector.

The project: renewable power generation to recharge electric heavy vehicles

The Watthub is a one-of-a-kind project that relies on green power generation from solar panels and windmills to sustainably recharge electric heavy vehicles. To match its sustainable aspirations, TSG designed and built a charging hub that can recharge the electric trucks and excavators used to perform the dyke reinforcement.

The Watthub is located in Geldermalsen, in the West of the Netherlands, on a highway that connects Rotterdam – the second largest Dutch city, home to the largest seaport in Europe – to Germany.

TSG delivered a turnkey solution, having supplied and installed chargers and transformer stations, and handled all the associated electrical works on-site.

Heavy vehicle drivers can now benefit from the six 600 kW Kempower Power Units and 36 Kempower Satellite chargers, with a total capacity of 3.6 MW, provided and installed by TSG.
