Crown Services was introduced by the Cabinet Office to act as a focal point for a specific set of providers seeking approval to supply to the public and non-profit sectors. It was formed to ensure a single and strategic view of the government’s needs is communicated in a consistent manner to the market. Crown representatives cover all sectors of service provision including small and medium enterprises, mutually owned organisations, large suppliers and specific business segments including the voluntary sector.

TSG project management

The challenge

Every successful project starts with a solid plan and procurement is an integral part of its effective execution. However, as all councils know, procurement can be a minefield for the project manager, fraught with unforeseen pitfalls.

To help alleviate the problem, Crown Services offers a fully managed, cost-free aggregation service to deliver buying power to the public sector. In simple terms, aggregation is collective buying by a group of bodies, leveraging their combined requirements to purchase goods and services at the best possible price.

Is price the deciding factor?

Whilst price is a vital element of procurement, there are many more components to this complex procedure that must be taken into careful consideration. Crown Services conducts an intense selection process to certify that all of the nominated suppliers are able to satisfy its strict criteria, in order to secure a commercial agreement.

For example, larger suppliers have to provide information on their supply chain management, tracking systems and payment practices, whilst illustrating a firm commitment to sustainability. Suppliers who fail to demonstrate a fair, responsible and ethical approach to business are excluded from bidding.

Commercial agreements

Commercial agreements help public and non-profit sector buyers to procure goods and services from a comprehensive list of pre-selected suppliers, with agreed terms, conditions and legal protections.

Once awarded, commercial agreements are usually valid for a fixed term, after which they are re-tendered, giving new suppliers the chance to attain pre-approved status.

Commercial agreements are split into categories by product or service type, and suppliers are invited to bid on the classification that best suits their offering. Specifically, each supplier will be judged and approved (or not as the case may be) on individual categories. If successful, they will be listed as an approved supplier of that particular product or service type, regardless of the size of their business portfolio. If a supplier wishes to be considered for more than one grouping,  they will have to go through a separate selection process for each one.

Councils can purchase everything from laptops, police cars, electric vehicle charging infrastructure to building materials. Services range from legal expertise to teams of digital experts; from construction project managers to financial services and business travel solutions.

Green communities

By the inclusion of specific policy considerations, Crown Services’ commercial agreements can help councils support communities and local economies on their journey to carbon net zero.

Commercial agreements offer many carbon-friendly products and services that can contribute to the creation of a cleaner, greener future for UK residents. Investment in infrastructure is essential for boosting economic growth and supporting government guidelines. A well-maintained infrastructure enables the transportation of goods and services, provision of access to work, schools, healthcare and recreational activities, connects communities, gives access to clean water, sanitation and power, and improves livelihoods by creating employment.

Building a better future

Adopting a green growth strategy, by switching to new energy technologies such as solar, heat pumps, LED lighting and hydrogen products, can help to dramatically improve the efficiency rating of older buildings and provide instant savings for both commercial and residential new builds.

The UK transport sector, which covers everything from street lighting and traffic management to logistics, is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. The fleet agreements provide access to electric vehicles and supporting charging infrastructure, enabling councils to implement a scalable solution to suit the requirements of their region.

TSG made the grade

TSG is proud to have been selected as an approved supplier of electric vehicle charge points to the public and non-profit sectors. As expected, Crown Services’ assessment process is very thorough, covering all aspects of the business and how it operates. TSG passed the appraisal with flying colours and will now join many other well-respected suppliers on the pre-approved list.

With over 30 years of experience in the energy sector, TSG is best placed to provide a complete end-to-end turnkey EV charge solution, from site survey, design, consultancy and distribution network operator (DNO) connections.

Now established as the UK’s first-choice engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, TSG can work with public sector procurement managers to deliver on any EV installation project within a predefined timescale and budget.

Finally, Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Solutions (VCIS) offers customers in central government and the wider public sector access to products and services from TSG that support vehicle charging infrastructure. Buyers can purchase a full turnkey solution or specific elements, to support the transition to low-emission vehicles. Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging info

Fast Charging Speed - typically 6-12 hours
A 6 - 12 hour charge time makes 'fast charging' generally suitable for workplace or hotel use, along with fleet operators wishing to charge vehicles overnight.

Rapid Charging Speed - typically 20-60 minutes
Rapid chargers use a Type 2 charging standard. Rapid AC chargers usually charge an EV up to 80% in 20 to 60 minutes.

Ultra Rapid or Hyper Charging Speed - typically 20-25 minutes
Delivering power from 100kW and more, 100kW, 250kW, 270kW or 350kW, a full charge can be accomplished in as little as 20 to 25 minutes with Ultra-rapid / Hyper chargers

*All charge times are dependent on the capacity of the battery and the % energy stored at the start of the charge. In most cases, EVs charge at a faster speed to 80% of capacity, then slow down to protect the batteries.
