Every moment matters
The UK’s emergency services comprise three main organisations, the Police Service, the Fire and Rescue Service and the Emergency Medical Services. While the Police and Fire services are overseen by the Home Office, the Department of Health is responsible for the National Health Service, and by extension the ambulances.
Each one of these critical public bodies deploys thousands of vehicles every day to attend life and death situations, often driving at breakneck speeds and through red lights to reach their destination in the fastest possible time. Our lives, quite literally, depend on the expertise of the emergency response teams and the effectiveness of the vehicles they drive.
Of course, there are many important people operating behind the scenes too, who contribute to these vital services by maintaining the emergency and incident support vehicles in tip-top mechanical condition, clean, fuelled and ready for action.
Being in charge of a blue-light fleet is a highly responsible position that requires a multitude of skills including, effective communication and coordination capabilities. Fleet managers from across all industry sectors face tough challenges on a day-to-day basis, but very few have the added pressure of relentless emergency call-outs.
